The Standing Stone was built by my father, Charles Fenn, in 1974. It was originally designed as a 6 bedroom B & B but to keep up with demands they converted it to 5 self-contained apartments in the early 80's. As there was not a lot of money going around in those days things were done as best they could under the circumstances. After 25 years of service things were pretty run-down so when I moved back with my family in 2005 the first order of business was to get the apartments back to a standard that the location and the clientele demanded.
We were well experienced in the business of renovating and managing short term apartments having built up a business in Florida doing exactly the same thing. The year before we left I totally renovated a 9 unit apartment building with the help of a painter and tiler. We ended up managing around 90 apartments and 20 houses, all fully furnished and rented short term.
One by one we gutted the apartments and installed new flooring, kitchens, bathrooms and appliances. Paint was chosen by Camille to compliment the colours of the sea and sky outside the windows. We installed wireless broadband from Digital Forge, Sky TV and stereo systems throughout.
Now that we are almost finished with the inside we are going to get on with tidying up and painting the exterior. There are a lot of trees to be removed and / or trimmed. The driveway needs to be graded and tar and chipped and some landscaping is badly needed.
